St. John Health System and HealthSouth Hold Groundbreaking Ceremony for New Rehabilitation Hospital
TULSA, Okla. – St. John Health System and HealthSouth broke ground on the future St. John Rehabilitation Hospital, affiliated with HealthSouth, yesterday with more than 120 guests in attendance. The future hospital will be located at 1200 West Albany Drive in Broken Arrow on the St. John Broken Arrow Hospital campus and will begin providing physical rehabilitation services in the third quarter of 2017.
At the ceremony, remarks were given by David Nicholas, CEO of St. John Rehabilitation Hospital; Jeffrey Nowlin, president and chief operating officer of St. John Medical Center; Congressman Jim Bridenstine, U.S. Representative for Oklahoma’s 1st congressional district; Wes Smithwick, president and CEO for the Broken Arrow Chamber of Commerce and Mark Tarr, executive vice president and chief executive office of HealthSouth Corporation.
“In this building, we will provide comprehensive physical rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain injury and many other major illnesses. We will provide care to more than 1,000 patients each year,” said Nicholas. “This is what we do best.”
The freestanding inpatient rehabilitation hospital will offer 40 all-private rooms including one bariatric patient room, one isolation room, one bariatric isolation room, an on-site therapy gym and cutting-edge rehabilitation technologies. For patients needing dialysis services while at the inpatient hospital, six rooms will be outfitted for connection. The hospital will provide comprehensive physical rehabilitation to patients who have experienced stroke, trauma, brain and orthopedic injuries, or other major illnesses or injuries.

The addition of the St. John Rehabilitation Hospital is a continuation of our commitment to a continuum of care for our patients,” said Nowlin. “This partnership with HealthSouth closely aligns St. John’s ongoing efforts in delivering a high quality experience for our patients.”
St. John Rehabilitation Hospital is currently serving patients in its 22-bed hospital located on the campus of the St. John Medical Center at 1923 South Utica Ave. in Tulsa. Patients and staff will transfer to the new hospital upon completion.
